Top Floor Apartment in Hampstead, London NW3
roof extension : roof terrace : planning permission : sustainable design : interior design
The Owners of this split level top floors apartment asked us to prepare a project of replacing the existing roof extension with a new attractive modern and larger structure, rearranging the floor layouts and throughly refurbishing the existing building fabric and interiors.
Working closely with our Clients, we prepared the designs and obtained planning permission in this sensitive Conservation Area for demolishing and replacing the existing dilapidated roof extension with a new structure of high design and construction standard, environmentally friendly, fulfilling the Clients brief.
Designs were prepared for repairs to the structure, reinstatement of period features and bringing the property up to the modern technical construction standards. The proposed alterations are of an appropriate scale and design, positively adopting the current construction and environmental standards, making positive contribution to the Conservation Area.
The design focused on taking full advantage of unique setting and outlook of the apartment, being on the 3rd and 4th floors of the Victorian terrace house, with west-facing large private roof terrace offering unbroken views over Hampstead Heath. The proposed top floor structure features full width glass wall with modern folding doors and partly glazed roof, both thermally controlled to prevent summer overheating. The mansard-style design of the street-facing elevation enhances privacy and insulates from the street noise.
The new glazed roof extension houses a new kitchen, dining and reception areas which, combined with the large refurbished roof terrace, offers a unique experience of space, privacy and spectacular views at this otherwise modest apartment.
