Apartment in St.Pancras Hotel building, London

restoration : interior design : bespoke furniture

This unique apartment is in the beautifully restored former St. Pancras Station Hotel building. Our design brief was to create additional floor space and bedroom area within the constraints of the Listed Building limitations.

The tall ceilings in the apartment suggested a possibility of introducing a mezzanine floor, which could practically double the floor space. The design details had to be carefully considered to ensure this would not conflict with the existing fabric of the building, nor with the strict fire regulations. After discussing the proposals with the Local Authority, our detail designs secured Listed Building Consent.

To ensure the existing period features within the apartment are preserved and enhanced, the mezzanine floor is mainly in glass supported by slim steel framing, connected to the existing building fabric in just a few places. This offers transparent streamlined appearance, offset by warm mahogany of the parquet floor and steps. The kitchen and bathroom form an independent ‘pod’ tucked under the new mezzanine floor.
